First experiences & Fears of using Polymer Clay- Poly Clay NUB

I had finally gotten into it! I was hesitant and fearful to begin using polymer clay as I had heard “strict” rules of baking, and the risk of burning the clay. I had put off purchasing polymer as it was pricey and well…I didn’t know how to use an oven.

Yes I know what you guys are all thinking. What type of person doesn’t know how to use an oven!?!?

 ****MEEEE****

I am totally hopeless when it comes to using kitchen appliances for cooking (I usually steer away from using things for the first time or if I am unfamiliar with it)-
My inner asian wouldn’t let me waste money on the better clays as I was such a noob! I had just begun to make my clay creations and I wanted to improve before spending a fortune on better clay.

**BIG MISTAKE**

The clay I was using (still have) is Mont Marte Air Dry Clay. As I live in Australia. There is not a wide variety of air dries in local craft/$2 stores.

To be honest, my creations looked horrible and retarded

First ever cookie with Air Dry. And yes. i overdid the glaze =.=""""
.
I guess this lemon is okay-ish? It looks cute atleast

So many people have mistaken this as a pink poop...its icecream!!! >3<''

Having waited half a year with collecting supplies and lacking time to practice my miniatures, I was lacking patience. I decided to give it a go! I purchased a toaster oven (I have done all the research and know that the temperature in toaster ovens is not accurate. But decided to take a leap in faith)

My first creations turned out decent! And much better than the air dry ones! I found that it was far easier to  create delicate features . Air Dry was just too hard to create a smooth look.

Green tea and strawberry cake roll~
At the time I was also using acrylic gloss varnish from Mont Marte as It was in my local $2 store. However, I realised that even  though it gave the desired effect, the smell was horrid and would last for a long time!

SOOOO i waited forever for my Duraclear Gloss Varnish to come in the mail! I have been using it ever since!

It's SUPER AWESOME !! <3
